Abstract. Forming components of titanium alloys via superplastic forming at elevated temperatures while being exposed to oxygen leads surface oxidation. The hard oxide layer formed on the is referred as alpha case. This case requires post-form processing remove it, thus increasing overall manufacturing costs and times. Superplastic lower can significantly reduce formation has other benefits, such life extension tooling less energy consumption. paper shows work done in terms non-commercial than traditional ones, proving that those readily achievable. pressures tonnage need be readjusted because increase flow stresses material. also illustrates implementation a microstructural-based model predict hot behaviour commercial alloy Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) during 800°C. material implemented into finite element software, Abaqus, PAM-STAMP obtain optimal pressure cycle form research component 800 °C with view minimizing formation.
